Why You Should Add Yoga to Your Self-Care Routine: Speakeasy Spotlight, Dayton Ohio

For the last month my sister Kristina and I have been focused on better learning how to show up for ourselves first. Showing up for yourself first, will mean something very different to each person and it’s supposed to. There is no one size fits all to this, it’s all about you my lovelies! Figuring out what makes you feel good, what replenishes your empty cup, what energizes you and makes you feel fulfilled and on your game! Essentially, it’s your self-care routine. Self-care is self-love and it’s not selfish. Remember that!

One way that I take care of myself is by developing a regular, ideally daily, yoga and meditation practice. I am not perfect, but I am trying, I am showing up as much as I can until it becomes automatic. And it feels great, knowing that I am doing this one small thing for myself! You may be wondering, yoga? Why yoga, how does yoga help me. Well, it helps me strengthen and better connect my mind, body and spirit. It sharpens focus, increases clarity, reminds me to breath intentionally, stretches my body and mind, and helps me to stay present in this moment and let go of distractions. It helps me to heal, release resistance, and feel good! It’s a win for me everytime I show up to my mat.

Before my surgery this past winter, I had the pleasure of interviewing a lovely, go-getter, boss lady named Tori Reynolds, the owner of Speakeasy Yoga. I took her free Saturday 10 am class during the Free Yoga in the Park summer series, via the Dayton Metroparks and it’s one of my favs! Both of her yoga studios are nicely located close to downtown, with everything you need and the ambiance is inviting, warm, and fun! As we sat down on the lavish couch in the entrance of the studio, she makes you feel as though you were talking to a close friend you’ve known forever. We discussed how she arrived at this point in her life, her background, the joys and challenges and owning her own business, future goals and what advice she had for other women looking to take the leap!

Tori’s advice was right on, timing is everything. Even if you don’t feel 100% ready, when space opens up go for it! Trust your gut, make decisions you feel strongly about. Navigate through how you feel instead of what everyone else is doing. One challenge that she mentioned, which I think many business owners may face is how do you set your business apart from the rest, how do you build that brand awareness, is it even important and what if people don’t want what you have? The answer is yes, brand awareness is important and you may not be for everyone and that’s okay. She grew her company by word of mouth, local events and did the work to build her reputation. She lives her life knowing that there is room for us all to succeed and live our best lives! That life is full of transitions and you have to leap and trust that all will be well.  Just breath ;)

Up next is a 6 day, 7 night Speakeasy Beach Retreat in Tulum Mexico!  And if you haven’t already, go and check out Tori and her staff at one of her two Speakeasy locations. There are lots of classes to choose from and an awesome intro rate so you can test out the different styles of yoga. Get ready to sweat, you’re going to love it!
