Girls Trip: 3 Things To Do For a Fun Weekend in Chicago

A few weeks ago, I had the chance to go to Chicago with a group of awesome women. It was a short trip but so much fun. We all are from Dayton, Ohio, so we opted to drive 4 hours instead of catching a flight.

I’m definitely that one friend, that likes to take her time so I took the day off, so that I’d  be well rested and have plenty of time to get my home in order before I left. I’m a mom, after all :). Before my weekend went into full effect, Shyra and I attended our younger sister, Ronay’s white coat ceremony. I even had my little one come along, because this was an important moment, since Ronay is the first one in the family to pursue a medical profession. See our cute family photo below.

After those festivities, it was time to get excited for my weekend adventure, in Chicago. Beyond the fact that I was going to see Beyonce’, I’d never been to Chicago and I love going to new places. So here are my 3 tips for a fun weekend in Chicago:

Gather a group of girlfriends

Who you choose for a road trip is so important, everyone should naturally click or at least be open to new personalities. I went to Chicago, with my two best friends from high school, Patrice, and Adrianna. Patrice and I attended the same high school together, and she now has her own lifestyle blog, Visionary Bloom. And then there’s Adrianna, the girl I’ve known since my first high school job. Adrianna has two podcasts: Ediblezzz and KandidKonvo. Our road trip was epic, filled with hours of laughing, listening to all genres of music (a full out concert), and catching up on each other lives. We are all super busy, so it was nice to hang out and have a good time together. I’ve heard the saying, maybe your girlfriends are your soulmates and guys are just for fun, and I’m starting to think that might be true. These ladies are awesome, they are my soul sisters.

Find a place to stay centrally located

With this being our first time to Chicago, we opted to find a place that’s centrally located, downtown. We choose the Home2 Suites by Hilton. It was a little pricey, but that’s to be expected in downtown.  It was a new hotel, with good service, and breakfast was included. We easily caught Uber and Lyft rides from this location. The biggest drawback was that there is literally no street parking available. If you want to use the hotel parking lot, it’s about $60 a day, fortunately, we found a nearby garage that was cheaper. I found this same parking issue, with almost every hotel I searched for.

Take advantage of local events

Chicago is a mecca for events and activities. There are shopping centers, such as the shops at North Bridge, Water Tower Place, and Block 37. Not to mention the various sightseeing monuments, such as Millennium Park, the Art Institute of Chicago, Navy Pier, and Willis Tower Skydeck. We didn’t have enough time to try out any boat rides, but that should be added to your list of activities. And if it’s warm enough, check out the beach on Lake Michigan.

For us, this trip was all about seeing Beyonce. She performed alongside Jay-Z for their On The Run II tour. I wouldn’t necessarily call myself apart of the Beyonce beehive club, but I love a talented artist, and Beyonce is that person. They don't call her the queen for nothing.  Beyonce and Jay-Z delivered nothing less than perfection. My throat was literally sore, due to all the screaming. I felt like I was at a 5-hour dance party.

So, ladies if you’re wondering where to book your next girls trip, pick the Chi!
